The Somali National Army (SNA) in Hiiraan region has joined forces with the regional administration to prevent potential flooding from the Shabelle River. Units from SNA’s 27th Division have engaged in flood prevention efforts, placing barriers in areas identified as high risk for the river breaching its banks.
The Deputy Commander of the 294th Battalion, First Lieutenant Muse Mohamed Addow ‘Sharib,’ led the operation, working alongside the local community to mitigate the threat of flooding in Beledweyne.
Rising waters from the Shabelle River have flooded multiple areas north of Beledweyne over the past two days, intensifying fears of widespread flooding in the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
Local reports say floodwaters have engulfed the villages of Deefow, Qooqane, and Lafoole, displacing residents and destroying vast agricultural lands poised for harvest.
