(04 NOV 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre met Dr. Hanan Balkhy, WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Regional Director, to discuss strengthening Somalia’s health system resilience. Emphasising the nation’s recovery and reconstruction, the Prime Minister highlighted the importance of investing in human capital and developing a robust health workforce, viewing these steps as essential for Somalia’s socio-economic transformation in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr. Balkhy pledged WHO’s continued support for delivering quality healthcare. She outlined a commitment to enhancing health governance, developing the workforce, and achieving better healthcare outcomes, including reducing mortality rates, and focusing on improving Somalia’s global health rankings.
