(14 Dec 2024) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali National Army’s Air Force has deployed helicopters to Baidoa in the Bay region as part of ongoing operations to eliminate Al-Shabaab militants. This marks a pivotal moment in the military campaign to stabilise the region.

General Hassan Isaaq Omar, (Hassan Baidoo), Commander of the 60th Division, described the arrival of the helicopters as transformative. Speaking to the national media, he emphasised their strategic value in countering insurgent activity and restoring security in Baidoa.

“This is an indescribable joy for us today,” said General Hassan. “At this time, technology has reached a modern stage, and these helicopters will be instrumental in achieving our objectives from the air.”

The President of the South West State also praised the Somali government for bolstering the region’s security forces, noting that this is the first deployment of its kind since 1991. He highlighted the critical role these helicopters will play in the country’s broader anti-insurgency operations.

Soldiers in the 60th Division welcomed the Air Force reinforcements, underscoring their importance in the fight against insurgents. The addition of these helicopters, they said, enhances their capability to launch coordinated air and ground assaults.

The Air Force helicopters have recently collaborated with the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) to intensify efforts to eradicate Al-Shabaab elements. This partnership signals a new phase in Somalia’s campaign to restore peace and stability nationwide.
