(25 Feb 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somali government forces, supported by local fighters, say they have repelled an Al-Shabab attack in the Hiiraan region of central Somalia.
The clashes occurred early on Tuesday morning near the villages of Beera-Yabaal and Aboorey, both in the Buulaburte district.
Militants attacked security positions but were pushed back by Somali National Army (SNA) troops and local resistance fighters, according to the government.
The Somali government said its forces had killed a significant number of militants, seized weapons, and captured combat vehicles.
“At dawn, our forces thwarted a desperate attack by the Khawarij terrorists, eliminating many of them at the battle sites. Our troops are still pursuing the fleeing remnants along the Shabelle River’s thickets,” the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
Commanders leading the operation in Hiiraan said they would soon release detailed reports on casualties and weapons seized.
Beera-Yabaal and the surrounding areas are now under the control of government forces and local militias, officials said.
