(09 Feb 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Danab special forces, supported by Jubbaland regional troops, have dealt a significant blow to Al-Shabab militants in a large-scale operation in the Lower Jubba region.
The offensive, carried out today in the village of Wayaanta, targeted key Al-Shabab hideouts. Military officials confirmed that the militants suffered heavy casualties, with underground bunkers and key positions destroyed.
Before advancing, government forces launched heavy artillery strikes on Al-Shabab positions, reportedly levelling fortified hideouts. Once the bombardment subsided, the joint forces swiftly overran the area, securing control.
A senior officer from the elite Danab commandos described the operation as “meticulously planned and precisely executed.” He added, “The militants suffered a heavy defeat. We found their dead fighters abandoned in tunnels, unable to retreat with their casualties.”
As of now, Al-Shabab has not commented on the operation.
The security situation in Wayaanta remains tense, with military reinforcements and ongoing tactical movements in the area.
This operation is part of a broader offensive aimed at dismantling Al-Shabab’s strongholds in southern Somalia, where the group continues to mount attacks against security forces and civilians.
