(09 Feb 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Rival factions of the Al-Shabab militant group have clashed in Somalia’s central Galgaduud region, resulting in significant casualties, according to local sources.
The fighting, which began yesterday and continued overnight, reportedly occurred in the village of Dhagaxyaaley, northwest of Waniile.
The clashes are understood to have involved two groups within Al-Shabab, one led by a commander known as Kaba-kutukade and the other by a leader from Ceelbuur district.
Sources say the dispute arose from disagreements over livestock taken from local civilians.
The exact number of dead remains unclear, and Al-Shabab has not yet issued an official statement.
The situation in the area is described as tense, with both factions reportedly continuing to mobilize.
Internal power struggles have led to violent clashes within Al-Shabab in the past, particularly in southern and central Somalia, where the group maintains a presence.
The infighting underscores the divisions within the group, even as it continues to pose a significant security threat to the region.
