(09 Feb 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Dozens of foreign fighters linked to ISIS have reportedly been sighted in a remote village near Ufayn, in Somalia’s Puntland state, according to local sources.
Security reports indicate that approximately 80 ISIS fighters fled following intensified military operations near Togga Jeceel. The fleeing militants are said to be guided by six Somali operatives familiar with the region’s terrain.
In recent weeks, Puntland security forces have ramped up military offensives against ISIS, particularly in the Calmiskaad Mountains, where the group has suffered heavy losses. Several strongholds have been recaptured, forcing the militants to scatter.
Authorities in Puntland have mobilized additional troops to track down the fleeing fighters, with security officials vowing to eliminate ISIS remnants and secure the region.
Puntland’s government has urged local communities to report any suspicious movements, as the security operation continues.
