(08 Feb 2025) BOSASO (Halqabsi News) —Security forces in Somalia’s Puntland state have discovered more bodies of foreign fighters during operations against ISIS-affiliated militants in the Bari region’s mountains.
Officials said the bodies were found after troops captured key militant bases in the Calmiskaad range, forcing the group to retreat. The bodies are believed to be those of foreign jihadists abandoned by ISIS fighters after heavy clashes.
Puntland’s Counter-Terrorism Command confirmed the discovery: “The forces have recovered additional foreign terrorist bodies from militant hideouts recently seized in Calmiskaad. Operations to eliminate Daesh (ISIS) elements in the region are ongoing.”
Separately, authorities in the port city of Bosaso arrested four suspected ISIS operatives, including three foreign nationals. They are under investigation.
Puntland has intensified its counter-terrorism campaign against ISIS, with international partners carrying out airstrikes against militant strongholds. The increased offensive underlines Puntland’s commitment to removing the group from its territory.
