(08 Feb 2025) BOSASO (Halqabsi News) — Officials in Puntland have denied reports that wounded soldiers, injured in fighting against ISIS, are facing difficulties obtaining passports for medical treatment abroad.

The Puntland Defence Support and Care Committee, responsible for assisting military personnel, categorically rejected claims that the Somali Immigration and Nationality Agency was obstructing passport issuance.

“Speaking on behalf of the defence support committee, I affirm that there are no passport-related obstacles,” said committee member Ahmed Hurre. “The Somali Immigration and Nationality Agency has not imposed any restrictions.”

The denial follows recent reports on social media and among some sections of the public alleging that some injured soldiers had experienced delays in getting passports, hindering their access to urgent medical care outside the country.

Mr. Hurre emphasized Puntland’s commitment to supporting its troops, stating that facilitating passports was a crucial part of the assistance provided.

The committee urged the public to avoid spreading misinformation and to support Puntland’s efforts in combating terrorism.

Puntland federal member state, has been engaged in a long-running campaign against ISIS-affiliated militants. The regional government reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating the group and ensuring stability.

The Defence Support Committee reiterated its readiness to assist all military personnel in need, ensuring that support measures are effectively implemented.
