(09 Mar 2025) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) — Puntland security forces say they have dismantled six bases used by Islamic State (IS) militants in the mountainous Calmiskaad region.
Military officials said a raid in the Geel-lagu-qal valley led to the seizure of what they described as significant militant infrastructure.
Brigadier General Mohamud Shire Mohamed, commander of the Puntland Marine Police Force (PMPF), said the operation uncovered “large bases” used by IS for hiding, storing weapons, and stockpiling supplies.
“We found six key bases on Sunday, cleared them completely, and seized all stored military equipment and provisions. Additionally, we uncovered a training site,” Brig. Gen. Shire said. He added that the militants had fled, “abandoning their weapons, food, and water.”
Officials said the operation is part of the third phase of an intensified offensive against IS in the region. They praised the efforts of Puntland’s security divisions.
The operation follows the previous fight in Jeceel Valley. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to “eradicating IS strongholds” in the region.
