A solidarity rally in support of Puntland’s defence forces was held on Tuesday in the capital, Garowe, where Vice President of Puntland, Ilyas Osman Lugatoor, joined hundreds of residents to express public backing for the ongoing anti-terror operation in the Al-Miskat mountains.
The event, organised as part of the Eid al-Fitr festivities, aimed to bolster morale for the courageous Puntland troops currently engaged in flushing out Islamic State-affiliated militants from the rugged mountains.
Addressing the crowd gathered at Mire Aware Football Stadium, Vice President Lugatoor applauded the public for standing firmly behind the security forces and acknowledged their critical role in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign. He urged citizens to maintain their unwavering support as the operation continues.
The Vice President underscored that terrorism must be confronted and eradicated wherever it exists, noting that the Puntland government’s foremost responsibility is to eliminate terrorist threats from all corners of its territory.
The occasion drew participation from government officials, members of the Nugal regional administration, Garowe district leadership, security commanders, and representatives from across the Garowe community.
