(04 Apr 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – The Immigration and Naturalization Directorate announced Friday that it has stepped up efforts to curb human trafficking and illegal migration, particularly involving young people attempting dangerous journeys abroad.
In a press release, the agency revealed that in the first three months of 2025, it intercepted 124 Somali youths aged between 18 and 25 who were preparing to migrate irregularly to countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
“All individuals found with evidence of planned illegal travel were handed over to relevant government institutions,” the agency stated.
The Directorate also urged parents to monitor their children closely, warning that illegal migration poses severe risks, including death at sea and exploitation. Authorities pledged to launch awareness campaigns and investigations into travel agencies suspected of facilitating irregular migration.
The statement concluded that “Protecting Somali youth is a national duty,” calling for joint efforts between parents, government institutions, and the private sector to combat the migration crisis.
