(24 Apr 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Thirty-two federal lawmakers representing Jubbaland have jointly condemned what they describe as “deliberate actions by the Federal Government” aimed at destabilising the Gedo region, particularly the town of Beled-Xaawo.
In a strongly worded statement, the MPs accused Villa Somalia – the presidential palace – of fuelling political and security tensions by deploying military force to undermine the Jubbaland administration’s authority.
“The Federal Government is directly interfering with local governance and using its security apparatus to dismantle the hard-earned administrative order in Jubbaland,” the lawmakers said. “This is a political assault on our people.”
They also alleged that federal authorities were violating Somalia’s provisional constitution by politicising international aid and issuing directives designed to weaken the federal system.
The lawmakers warned that federal military deployments and committees sent to Gedo risked igniting fresh conflict and damaging community cohesion. “Any resulting unrest will be the sole responsibility of the Federal Government,” they stated.
The MPs urged the people of Jubbaland to unite in support of their regional administration and to help safeguard peace and counter the threat of al-Shabab.
They also called on the international community to monitor what they described as “dangerous constitutional violations” and to take a clear stance against the Federal Government’s actions.
