(22 Apr 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Local Macawisley defence forces in Somalia’s Hiiraan region launched a surprise night raid on Al-Shabaab militants hiding in the Aboorey area on Tuesday evening, officials confirmed.
The operation followed intelligence indicating that Al-Shabaab fighters were regrouping in the area. Commanders said the raid was swift and successful, resulting in heavy militant casualties.
“Our forces acted preemptively and eliminated the threat before it could endanger civilians,” one officer told Halqabsi News. Local forces now maintain full control over the area.
The attack comes on the heels of a similar operation on Saturday targeting Al-Shabaab fighters between Mabaax and Aadan Yabaal, which reportedly killed several militants and disrupted planned assaults on neighbouring communities.
Al-Shabaab’s recent recapture of Aadan Yabaal in the Middle Shabelle region has raised fears of renewed offensives in Hiiraan. The group has escalated its activity in recent months, often launching attacks mid-week—a pattern prompting heightened alert from regional defence units.
