Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni is reportedly planning to tarvel to Nairobi where he will engage in political discussions, including a meeting with Jubaland leader Ahmed Mohamed Islam “Ahmed Madobe’, amid signs of renewed engagement between the two regional presidents. This will be Deni’s first visit to Kenya since Puntland launched an anti-ISIS campaign in December 2024.
Their meeting will be the first since relations between the two soured following Somalia’s national elections in 2022.
President Madobe has been in Nairobi over the past few days, holding talks with Somali political figures based in the city. The upcoming meeting is expected to focus on the broader political direction of the federal government, which both leaders have previously criticised.
