Somalia’s Minister for Communications and Technology, Mohamed Adam Moalim Ali, on Wednesday opened a national legislative retreat in Nairobi bringing together oversight committees from both the Senate and the House of the People. The retreat focuses on reviewing three critical pieces of legislation aimed at advancing the country’s digital economy: the Cybersecurity Bill, the Cybercrime Bill, and the Electronic Transactions Bill.
The minister said the event marked a key step in Somalia’s efforts to strengthen its digital legal framework. He noted that the retreat offers lawmakers an opportunity to evaluate and refine the proposed laws that will shape the future of digital governance in Somalia.
Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya, Jabril Abdulle, who accompanied the minister during the start of the event said the three bills under review are essential for enhancing digital governance, protecting citizens online, and creating new economic opportunities in the digital space.
