Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam ‘Ahmed Madobe’ is set to visit Garowe, the capital of Puntland, early next week for talks with Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni. The talks follow a private meeting held between the two leaders in the United Arab Emirates on May 27, where they reached a preliminary understanding aimed at mending strained ties caused by disputes over Somalia’s 2022 elections.
The upcoming Garowe meeting is expected to produce joint positions on key national political issues, including the recent constitutional amendments introduced by Villa Somalia and ongoing election-related tensions. Sources indicate that Madobe and Deni are also considering inviting opposition leaders from Mogadishu for a broader political summit to discuss Somalia’s future direction—particularly the lead-up to the 2026 presidential election.
