(09 June 2025)QANDALA (Halqabsi News) – A high-level government delegation from Puntland State has visited remote areas in the Bari region recently cleared of fighters affiliated with the Islamic State (ISIS).
The visit on Wednesday aimed to assess the security and humanitarian situation in parts of the Qandala district following a series of military operations that pushed the militants out of their former strongholds. The delegation included Puntland’s security minister and other senior officials.
During the tour, the officials met with local communities to discuss cooperation with security forces and to evaluate the needs of the population now that state control has been re-established.
The operation to remove ISIS elements from the mountainous coastal region is part of a broader campaign by the semi-autonomous state to restore stability. Local residents reportedly expressed their willingness to work with the government to prevent the return of the insurgents.
