(09 June 2025) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) – Puntland’s Defence Forces have captured several strategic valleys from ISIS militants in north-eastern Somalia following a three-day coordinated air and ground operation.
A military statement confirmed that forces had taken full control of the Sadow, Abdalle, and parts of the Raa-raha valleys. These areas, located in the Baallade region, have long been used as hideouts and transit routes by fighters operating from the Almiskaad mountain range.
The statement added that government troops had inflicted significant casualties, seized weapons, and cleared the area of militants.
The offensive concludes the third phase of ‘Operation Almiskaad’, a wider campaign to dismantle extremist networks in the region. Puntland is now reportedly preparing for a new operation, codenamed ‘Onkod’, which will target Al-Shabaab militants in the Almadow mountains.
