(15 June 2025) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) – The administration of state of Puntland is reportedly preparing to re-engineer rockets seized from ISIS-affiliated militants for its own military use, according to unconfirmed local reports.
The rockets were allegedly captured from the insurgent group before they could be fully assembled. Sources familiar with the matter claim that technical teams in Puntland are now assessing the possibility of modifying the weapons.
These sources have made the extraordinary claim that the rockets, if properly modified, could potentially strike targets at ranges of up to 700 kilometres.
Military officials in Puntland have declined to comment on the matter.
If the reports are confirmed, the move would represent a significant development in the military capabilities of the regional state. The news comes as Puntland forces continue a major offensive against ISIS remnants in the mountainous Baallade valley region.
