President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), on Monday received the outgoing Swedish Ambassador to Somalia, Joachim Waem, for a farewell meeting at the Presidential Palace. President Irro expressed gratitude for Sweden’s longstanding development support and praised Ambassador Waem’s role in fostering constructive engagement during his tenure.
Discussions also touched on key achievements of the new administration, including the integration of civilian personnel into government structures, peace-building progress in eastern regions, and renewed diplomatic outreach. The President emphasised Somaliland’s readiness for deeper cooperation with Sweden, particularly in development, investment, and maritime security.
Ambassador Waem thanked Somaliland’s leadership and people for their partnership, reaffirming Sweden’s continued support for peace and democracy in the region. He pledged to relay an accurate account of Somaliland’s progress to his government and noted strong parliamentary backing in Sweden for enhanced bilateral ties. The meeting concluded with a traditional gift from the President to the Ambassador, symbolising Somaliland’s rich heritage and enduring friendship.
