Somali police in Lower Shabelle’s Afgoye district intercepted a Probox vehicle carrying explosives, preventing it from continuing its journey to the capital, Mogadishu. Senior police officer Osman Omar Burale and his team stopped the vehicle for inspection before it could proceed.
The explosives were concealed inside a large audio speaker and small jerrycans to avoid detection by authorities.
The operation is part of an ongoing crackdown on Al-Shabaab’s attempts to destabilise Mogadishu, which has recently enjoyed a reprieve from VBIED attacks. The capital has seen improved security, with the efforts of the security forces earning praise for their dedication to protecting residents and infrastructure.
