(12 Feb 2025) BOSASO (Halqabsi News) — An Indian warship has apprehended a group of armed pirates who recently hijacked a Yemeni fishing boat off the coast of Eyl district in Nugal region. The Wednesday operation marks a swift response to the escalating threat of piracy in the region. According to intelligence sources, eight armed men were taken into custody earlier today. These individuals had seized the fishing vessel a few days prior, prompting heightened vigilance in the area.
The pirates, all of whom hail from Puntland, launched an attack on an Indian fishing boat early this morning in international waters. The targeted vessel issued a distress signal, triggering an immediate intervention by an Indian warship.
Reports indicate that the assailants attempted to stage a second assault on the same fishing boat they had previously hijacked but were intercepted and detained in the process. The fishing vessel has since been secured and is now under the protection of Indian forces.
