(12 Feb 2025) BOSASO (Halqabsi News) — Puntland security forces on Wednesday detained five individuals suspected of being affiliated with the terrorist group ISIS in Bosaso, the capital of the Bari region. The arrests follow intensified counterterrorism efforts in the region.
A statement from Puntland’s Counter-Terrorism Unit confirmed that security personnel in Bosaso took the suspects into custody based on intelligence reports provided by local residents. Authorities have verified that all five detainees are Somali nationals.
“Security forces have arrested five individuals with alleged links to ISIS in Bosaso, following tip-offs from the public. These suspects, all Somali nationals, are now under investigation,” the Puntland security forces stated.
Officials emphasised that enquiries are ongoing to establish the extent of the suspects’ involvement with ISIS and any potential terrorist activities. Security operations targeting extremist networks in the region remain active. Similar operations in the past netted several IS suspects as part of the offensive against the group in the Bari region.
