(24 Feb 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Somalia has expressed appreciation to the United States for its continued support in combating terrorism, highlighting recent U.S. airstrikes against ISIS in Puntland as a crucial part of the joint effort to restore peace and stability in the country.
Somalia’s Information Minister, Daud Aweis, said the fourth successful U.S. military strike in three weeks underscores the strong partnership between both nations in counterterrorism operations. He noted that U.S. air support has forced ISIS and Al-Shabab militants into retreat, disrupting their movements and pushing them into hiding in remote caves.
Aweis emphasised that these actions have weakened terrorist groups, curbing their operational capacity and enhancing national security. He reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to working with international partners to eradicate terrorism and build a secure and prosperous future for all Somalis, stressing that progress is being made in the fight against extremism. The US has provided aerial support to Somali security forces fighting ISIS and Al-Shabaab in different regions in the Horn of Africa nation.
