(07 Mar 2025) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) — Puntland security forces have announced they are pursuing individuals with alleged ties to ISIS who failed to surrender by a government-imposed deadline, escalating efforts to dismantle militant networks in the federal member state.

Colonel Hassan Abdullahi Mohamed, Puntland’s police spokesperson, stated on Friday, 7 March 2025, that authorities possess a list of suspects accused of links to the terrorist group and are working to apprehend them. “Those who ignored President Said Abdullahi Deni’s ultimatum will face legal action,” he said, emphasizing that investigations remain ongoing.

The deadline, set last month by President Deni, offered ISIS-affiliated individuals a final chance to surrender amid a broader counterterrorism crackdown. While the exact number of suspects remains undisclosed, Colonel Hassan warned against public speculation, stressing that only those “proven guilty of terrorism ties through due process” would face prosecution.

The announcement follows heightened security operations across Puntland, including recent raids in mountainous areas where ISIS cells are reportedly active. Analysts note the group’s presence, though smaller than al-Shabab’s, poses a persistent threat due to its recruitment of disillusioned militants and exploitation of local grievances.

Colonel Hassan urged residents to cooperate with authorities but refrain from spreading unverified claims. “Security agencies will share conclusive findings once investigations are complete,” he said.
