(2 Apr 2025) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – Former Prime Minister and presidential hopeful Abdi Farah Shirdoon (Saacid) has revealed that he held talks with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on key national issues, including security and the upcoming elections.
In a post shared on his official Facebook page, Shirdoon expressed gratitude for the meeting held at Villa Somalia, saying the discussions focused on finding inclusive political solutions during this critical period.
“I raised with the country’s leadership the urgent need to resolve security and political challenges through national consensus and consultation,” he wrote. “We must ensure that electoral reforms and constitutional amendments are guided by broad-based agreement, and that the Somali people unite to eliminate terrorism through reforms and motivation of our national forces.”
Shirdoon, who currently chairs the Nagaad Party, also highlighted the importance of revising security strategies to prevent the resurgence of Al-Shabaab in areas surrounding Mogadishu, warning just last week of militant advances near the capital.
His call comes as political and security tensions remain high, with Somali leaders under pressure to deliver a credible roadmap to elections and respond effectively to the threat posed by extremist groups.
