During a meeting with civil society organisations, Mr Shirdon praised their role in maintaining national cohesion and defending citizens’ rights. He described civil society as a “neutral voice” essential to peacebuilding and governance.
“Civil society is not a threat, it is the foundation of peace, progress, and good governance,” Mr Shirdon said.
Discussions focused on the need for timely elections, civic engagement, human rights, press freedoms, and the role of women and youth in leadership.
In a separate meeting with media executives, Mr Shirdon discussed the role of journalism in promoting democracy. He stressed the importance of a free and responsible press and called on media professionals to uphold journalistic ethics.
“If truly supported and protected, independent media can become a platform for unity, not division,” Mr Shirdon said.
Mr Shirdon’s meetings reflect his commitment to a consultative approach to governance.
