(09 June 2025)MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) – At least 25 Al-Shabaab militants, including three senior commanders, were killed on Sunday in a raid by elite Somali Danab commandos in the Lower Shabelle region.
In a statement, the Ministry of Defence said its forces had conducted a “precision operation” in the village of Gaalware. It confirmed that “over 25 Al-Shabaab terrorists, including 3 senior commanders, were neutralised.”
A significant weapons cache was also captured, which the ministry listed as six PKM machine guns, two rocket-propelled grenades, and seventeen AK-47 rifles.
The raid is the latest in a series of intensified military operations that have put al-Shabaab under pressure in central and southern Somalia. Separately, security forces recently killed Nuur Abdi Rooble, a high-ranking commander who was key to the group’s operations in the Galmudug and Hirshabelle states.
The government has stated its intention to launch a final, large-scale offensive to clear the remaining territories under the control of the Islamist group.
