The Puntland Ministry of Fisheries has issued a statement clarifying reports about a fishing boat that drifted ashore on the Il-Foocshe coast in Jariban district, Mudug region.
The vessel, named Tawakal, reportedly suffered engine and steering failure while en route from Mukalla, Yemen, to Kismayo. It eventually washed ashore due to the malfunction.
“All five Somali crew members are safe, and the vessel is owned by Somali fishermen,” the ministry said.
The statement confirmed that Tawakal was not carrying any cargo at the time. It also noted the incident occurred during the monsoon season, when rough seas and high winds make maritime travel particularly dangerous.
