(04-04-23) LASANOD– In a recent development, SSC local forces have arrested approximately 20 individuals in the Lasaanood area, who are suspected of working with the Somaliland army. The arrestees were apprehended during an operation carried out by the SSC forces in the eastern part of Lasaanood.
According to SSC army officials engaged in the ongoing conflict with the Somaliland military, the arrested individuals had reportedly arrived from the direction of Burco and were heading straight to the Lasaanood battleground. The SSC forces have detained the suspects, and further investigations are in progress, as confirmed by local police officials.
In the meantime, skirmishes continue on the outskirts of Lasaanod between the Somaliland army and local forces. This morning, residents in the area reported opposing activities and confrontations, escalating concerns over the possibility of another full-blown war, as both sides continue to amass troops.
Efforts to de-escalate the conflict in Lasaan have so far been fruitless, despite the intervention of International Community and the Federal Government.. The ongoing strife in Lasaanod has now entered its second consecutive month, with a mounting death toll of hundreds and over a thousand injured, a majority of whom are civilians.
