(07-04-23) MOGADISHU – A Finnish delegation led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pekka Haavisto, arrived in Mogadishu today and was warmly received by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Abshir Omar Jama (Haruse), at Aden Adde Airport. The visit marks a significant step in fostering and strengthening bilateral relations between Finland and Somalia, as well as addressing ongoing security and humanitarian concerns in the region.
In a brief meeting held by the two ministers at the airport, they exchanged information on matters of mutual interest and the current state of their respective countries. The discussion focused on the progress of Somalia’s stabilization efforts and counter-terrorism operations, the humanitarian situation, the impact of the ongoing drought, and the development efforts of the Federal Government of Somalia (DFS) throughout the nation.
Minister Haruse provided an update on the Somali government’s progress in combating terrorism and its efforts to stabilize the region. He highlighted the importance of international support in the fight against terrorism and emphasized the significant strides made by the Somali security forces. Additionally, Haruse shared information about the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the country, including the devastating effects of the current drought on local communities.
Minister Haavisto expressed Finland’s continued support for Somalia’s efforts to achieve peace, stability, and prosperity.
