(13-06-23) MOGADISHU — Information Minister of Somalia, Daud Aweys Jama, launched an important training workshop on Tuesday for Somali journalists, focusing on enhancing their understanding and reporting of child rights issues.
The training opened in the capital city of Mogadishu, aims to equip journalists with the necessary skills to effectively cover children’s rights, an issue that the Somali government recognises as integral to society. Minister Jama stressed the need for this training to raise public awareness about the rights and needs of the country’s children.
Minister Jama urged the beneficiaries of the training to seize this opportunity to enhance their skill sets. “I call on the journalists participating in this workshop to grasp all necessary skills and implement them in their day-to-day reporting activities,” the Minister said during his address.
In his concluding remarks, Minister Jama emphasised the critical role that the media plays in informing and educating the public about children’s rights. He urged the journalists to leverage their platforms to produce content tailored towards the rights, education and good upbringing of children.
“Given the significant role media plays in our society, it is crucial that we utilise this platform to raise awareness about children’s rights,” stated Minister Jama. “I encourage our journalists to create content that focuses on children’s rights, their education, and their overall well-being.”
