(19-04-23) MOGADISHU –The Gorgor forces, specifically the 14 October brigade, carried out a series of well-coordinated attacks against Al-Shabaab in the Lower Shabelle region today. In a decisive move, the forces targeted and destroyed courts and checkpoints belonging to the terrorist group in the Awdheegle district and Janale area.
According to military sources, the Gorgor forces have successfully taken control of key areas, including Jowhar Awdheegle, Ay-Butey, Gumeysidid, Kali Al-Nagey, and Buulo-Nagey, which are all part of the Lower Shabelle region. These victories have considerably weakened Al-Shabaab’s hold on the region.
Officers leading the operation have disclosed that they are actively pursuing Al-Shabaab members who managed to escape during the onslaught. They also emphasized that the operations would continue until the entire region is free from the extremist group’s control.
Tensions remain high in the Lower Shabelle region, with opposing movements still active in certain areas. Lower Shabelle is known to be one of Al-Shabaab’s strongholds, from where the group orchestrates explosions and direct attacks.
Over the past few days, allied forces have intensified their operations against Al-Shabaab in both southern and central Somalia. These strategic moves aim to weaken the terrorist group’s hold on the region and restore stability to the affected areas.
