(21-04-23) MOGADISHU – In a planned operation, the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) along with international allies successfully targeted and killed more than 20 Al-Shabaab Khawarij militants, including key leaders, in the Lower Shabelle region of Somalia. The operation took place on the night of April 20 between the Ugunji and Mubarak areas. In addition to the fatalities, numerous militants were injured during the assault.
According to the NISA statement, the targeted Khawarij militiamen were in the process of organizing themselves within a forested area when they were ambushed by the joint forces. Several of the militants managed to escape, but authorities are actively pursuing them in a bid to ensure their capture.
The NISA and its international partners remain committed to the mission of liberating Somalia from the Al-Shabaab Khawarij and restoring peace and stability to the region. As the government continues to pursue the militants, officials have reaffirmed their dedication to eradicating the extremist group and protecting the people of Somalia from further violence.
