(08-05-23) BELEDWAYNE – President of Hirshabelle State of Somalia, Ali Gudlawe Hussein, arrived in Beledweyne on Monday with a delegation of ministers and other officials, receiving a warm welcome at the Ugas Khalifa Airport. The delegation was greeted by the governor of Hiran region, Ali Jeyte Osman, and other regional and district authorities, security agencies, military officials, and various community members.
In his statement, President Ali Gudlawe Hussein declared the purpose of his visit as twofold: to resolve the ongoing dispute between the Hirshabelle administration and the Hiran regional administration, and to prepare for the second phase of the war against the extremist group al-Shabaab. He emphasized the need for unity in the face of the threat posed by the extremist group, saying, “The conflict between the administration will be resolved, and the problem and burden of the al-Shabab is enough. If there is a conflict, it will return to the people.”
The dispute between the two administrations has caused significant disruption in the region, with many vehicles left stranded on their journeys. To alleviate this issue, President Hussein has ordered that the vehicles be allowed to continue their journey. The disagreement stems from the collection and distribution of taxes in the Hiran region, as Governor Ali Jeyte has opposed the transfer of funds from the Hiran region to the treasury of the Hirshabelle administration.
During his visit, President Hussein is expected to hold talks with regional leaders, security forces, and local communities to address the ongoing issues and foster collaboration. The president’s presence in Beledweyne underscores the urgency of uniting the region and preparing for a decisive offensive against al-Shabaab.
The outcome of these discussions will have significant implications for the security and stability of Hirshabelle. As the Hirshabelle administration and the Hiran regional administration work towards a resolution, the people will be looking for signs of progress and hope for a brighter, more secure future.
