(07-06-23) MOGADISHU — Somalia’s National Armed Forces, supported by international security partners, reported the elimination of 20 Al-Shabaab militants on Wednesday, according to Daud Aweis, Somalia’s Information Minister.
During his customary weekly press address, Minister Aweis delineated the details of the operation that took place on Wednesday in Beled Amin, a village in the Lower Shabelle region of Hirshabelle State. The operation, a combined effort of the national military, the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), and international allies, was part of an ongoing strategy to neutralise Al-Shabaab.
The targeted operation was executed in the outskirts of Beled Amin, part of the same Lower Shabelle region, as the government continues to pursue Al-Shabaab operatives. The authorities believe that this region has been serving as a covert assembly point for the militants, specifically a farm in the Beled Amin area.
The operation was reportedly conducted with rigorous intensity and was described as a ‘strong attack’ by key national officials. With a planned and coordinated approach, the National Army, alongside its international partners, orchestrated this operation to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s clandestine operations in the region.
