(12-06-23) MOGADISHU — The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hamsa Abdi Barre, on Monday, voiced concerns to the Speaker and the Standing Committee of the People’s Assembly of the Federal Republic of Somalia, underscoring the need for increased collaboration between executive and legislative bodies.
In the meeting chaired by the Speaker of the People’s Assembly, Mr. Adan Mohamed Noor Madobe, the discourse focused on how to intensify cooperation, in the context of recent legislative developments and the ongoing fight against corruption.
Prime Minister Hamsa lauded the parliament for their swift approval of crucial national laws. He noted their progress on debt relief and national security matters as fulfilling their constitutional obligations. However, he urged the legislative body to expedite the passage of remaining laws that hold paramount importance for the country’s welfare.
Highlighting the government’s readiness for scrutiny and accountability, Barre stated the administration’s mission is centred around good governance and a stringent fight against corruption. He stressed that transparency would be fundamental to this endeavour.
The Prime Minister conveyed his gratitude to the Standing Committee for their ongoing collaboration. Reaffirming his commitment to the democratic process, he confirmed that any political agreement reached by the National Consultive Council would be presented to the People’s Assembly, adhering to the Constitution and the parliamentary Bylaws.
