(18-10-23) MOGADISHU — In a formal ceremony at Villa Somalia on Wednesday, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, accepted the diplomatic credentials of Sweden’s newly-appointed Ambassador to Somalia, Joachim Waern.
President Mohamud expressed his hopes for a fruitful relationship between the two nations during Ambassador Waern’s term. “We look forward to furthering the mutual benefits that our countries have always enjoyed,” the President said in his remarks.
Ambassador Waern, who previously served as Sweden’s Ambassador to South Sudan, extended his gratitude to the Somali people and government for their warm welcome. Waern outlined his commitment to enhancing diplomatic relations and bilateral cooperation in areas including trade and development assistance.
The appointment has been officially recognised by both countries, with the Embassy of Sweden in Somalia hosting a welcoming ceremony in August to mark the start of Ambassador Waern’s term. The event was attended by high-ranking officials from both Somalia and Sweden.
