(18-10-23) BAIDOA — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in Baidoa on Wednesday afternoon for a pivotal evening meeting with Southwest President Abdazis Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen and traditional Southwest Elders. The leaders outlined a national plan aimed at combating terrorism and liberating the country from extremist groups such as Al-Shabaab.
President Mohamud emphasised the crucial role of community involvement in counter-terrorism efforts. “Public organisation, raising awareness about terrorism, and social unity are the cornerstones of the second phase of our liberation efforts,” stated Mohamud.
Southwest Elders signalled their full support for the President’s plans, praising his dedication to a terror-free Somalia. “We are prepared to sacrifice life and wealth to ensure the next phase of the liberation struggle is successful,” read a statement from Southwest cultural representatives.
The President has recently returned from a two-month deployment in Galmudug, where he took the lead in the first phase offensive against Al-Shabaab. The President is expected to lead the second phase offensive against Al-Shabaab in Baidoa.
