(09/11/23) MOGADISHU – A series of explosions have targeted the Hormuud Telecom company on the outskirts of Mogadishu, specifically in the village of Elasha Biyaha. The most recent of these incidents occurred on Wednesday night and was notably intense, causing alarm in the area.
Sources confirm that a hand grenade triggered the explosion in the Jabad Geele section of the village, leading to substantial property damage at Hormuud Telecom’s facility. This attack was not an isolated event but followed a similar explosion on Wednesday morning at another Hormuud facility in the Dayniile district of Mogadishu, which also sustained damage.
Security forces acted swiftly, arriving at the scene of the latest explosion to conduct operations aimed at apprehending the perpetrators.
The motives behind these attacks are currently unclear, though it is suspected that extremist groups such as Al-Shabaab and Daesh, known for similar attacks, may be involved.
Despite the unrest, normalcy has resumed in Elasha Biyaha as of this morning, with people, traffic, and businesses operating as usual in the Lower Shabelle region.
