(02-12-23) MOGADISHU (HN) — Abdisamad Moallim Mohamud, a member of the Somali People’s Assembly, had a narrow escape when his vehicle came under fire in Mogadishu on Friday night. The incident, which occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Maka Al-Mukarrama Road near the Haji Basto intersection, has raised concerns about the security situation in the capital.
Upon reaching a checkpoint operated by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), the MP’s vehicle was initially cleared to proceed after his driver informed the officers of his parliamentary status. However, in a startling turn, a NISA soldier fired at the vehicle, shattering its window.
Top security officials responded promptly to the scene. Expressing his relief and satisfaction with their swift action, Abdisamad stated, “The top officials of the Security Agency reached us quickly, and the soldier was immediately removed from duty and arrested.”
Abdisamad emphasised that the shooting was not an assassination attempt but an unfortunate mistake by the soldier. He expressed his hope that this incident would serve as a learning opportunity to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
