(04-12-23) MOGADISHU (HN) — The Somali National Army on Monday undertook a series of targeted strikes in the Bay region, escalating military operations against Al-Shabaab in Southwest State. The operations, which were conducted in the villages of Adegow, Garaar, Warta Dolar, and Weeley, have reportedly dealt a blow to the militant group, known for its extremist activities in Somalia.
Hassan Adan Mohamed (Hasan Taar), the Commander of the 46th Division, 8th Battalion of the National Army, in a statement to government media, emphasised the strategic success of these operations. A key highlight was the demolition of a critical Al-Shabaab facility, identified as a registration office. This facility played an instrumental role in the group’s administrative and extortion activities, directly impacting the local populace.
This recent offensive forms a part of a broader strategy aimed at completely dislodging Al-Shabaab from the Southwest State. Commander Hassan Adan underscored the relentless commitment of the Somali National Army to continue these operations until Al-Shabaab’s influence in the region is entirely eradicated.
Further, officials from the Southwest State administration have indicated preparations for the second phase of this offensive. This upcoming phase is expected to intensify efforts against Al-Shabaab, signalling a firm resolve to restore peace and stability in the region.
