(11-12-23) GAROWE (HN) — In a press conference held in Garowe on Monday, Puntland parliamentarians voiced their disapproval of the recent term extension ratified by a segment of their colleagues. The lawmakers also expressed approval of the constitutional court’s verdict on Sunday, which overturned the term extension. They praised the decision as both appropriate and timely.
The group of over 10 MPs, convening the press briefing, cautioned against a summons issued by the parliamentary leadership for a meeting today, arguing that it could unnecessarily stir political instability in Puntland.
The parliamentarians noted that their official term has concluded, rendering their continued office occupancy illegitimate. Collectively, as a cohort of 30, they reiterated their previous rejection of the term extension.
In a contrasting move, the parliamentary leadership communicated to the MPs last night, calling for an urgent assembly today, though the specifics of the agenda remain undisclosed.
