(12-12-23) MOGADISHU (HN) — Abdi Moallin Abdulle, a former member of the Al-Shabaab extremist group, has surrendered to the Somali National Army’s 60th Division. Known by his alias ‘Hamza,’ Abdulle was affiliated with Al-Shabaab for five years, predominantly in their combat division. He engaged in several conflicts across various regions, including Bay, Bakol, Galgaduud, Hiiraan, Gedo, and Jubbada Hoose.
Abdulle disclosed to the state-owned media his role in orchestrating attacks and selecting targets, especially those involving government forces. His involvement spanned several key locations, including El La Helay, Masagawa, Buloburte, and Jalalaqsi, among others.
Abdulle explained his decision to abandon the Khawaarij, highlighting the group’s internal turmoil and their detrimental actions against the Somali people. He concluded by appealing to his ex-comrades in Al-Shabaab to renounce their allegiance and yield to the government amnesty to defectors.
