(19-12-23) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali armed forces, Galmudug dervishes and local forces, on Tuesday intensified operations against Al-Shabaab militants in southern parts of Mudug region. The joint forces employed heavy artillery, including mortars, targeting Al-Shabaab hideouts near Caad district of Mudug according to local sources.
Residents reported that Al-Shabaab suffered losses due to shelling, which led to their retreat. During the militants’ withdrawal, a vehicle carrying Al-Shabaab members overturned, causing further casualties.
The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the Somali National Army (SNA) and Galmudug Dervishes have successfully secured several villages in the southern Mudug region, namely Dhagaxdheer and Dahar-Cali Xaylow near Caad City.
Army officers, in communications with government media, indicated that the operation against Al-Shabaab is ongoing, with efforts focused on forest areas where militants are believed to be hiding.
This latest military action came on the heels of successful operations by the 24th Brigade of Khalid Binu-Walid, which resulted in the liberation of areas in the Gagal-ugaas and Murcudka under the Ruun-nirgood district of Middle Shabelle from Al-Shabaab control.
