(09-01-24) GAROWE (Halqabsi News) — Puntland President-Elect Said Abdullahi Deni is scheduled to host a luncheon today honouring the contenders who ran against him in the recent election. The gesture comes after President Deni secured re-election, confirming his leadership over the region for another five-year term.
The luncheon, to be held at the Puntland Presidential Palace, will see the assembly of the 10 candidates who vied for the presidency. The Puntland presidential election concluded on 8 January, with President Deni achieving re-election after his closest opponent, Guled Salah, conceded defeat and extended congratulations to the president-elect.
Despite their differences with President Deni, the other candidates have also recognised the election outcome and congratulated the elected leader on his victory.
In the wake of his electoral success, President Deni has received congratulatory messages from across the nation, including President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, Parliament Speakers, Regional Presidents, and the Somali people.
As he prepares to govern for the next five years, President Said Abdullahi Deni stands out as the first leader in Puntland’s history, since its establishment in 1998, to successfully secure a consecutive term.
