(12-01-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — Ethiopian forces have reportedly shot and killed a Somaliland police officer and a civilian in the village of Qoolbulalle. Residents of the border village relayed the circumstances leading to the deaths, though details remain sparse.
The deceased police officer, identified only as Mohamed and nicknamed ‘Hargeisa’, and the civilian, a young man named Ismail Hassan Budul, were the casualties in this latest border skirmish. The specifics of the encounter, including the number of Ethiopian troops involved and their motives, are currently unclear.
This incident is not isolated, harking back to a similar confrontation in 2010 at a checkpoint in Buhoodle. That clash involved Ethiopian forces and residents, resulting in the deaths of at least 13 people, including three Ethiopian soldiers and ten civilians.
So far, there has been no official comment from either the Ethiopian or Somaliland authorities regarding the recent shootings. The absence of official details or any report of subsequent arrests contributes to the ongoing uncertainty and concern in the region.
