(20-01-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — At least seven Al-Shabaab militants were killed and numerous others injured in a joint operation conducted by Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and international security partners. The operation took place in Fidow village, Middle Shabele Region, on Friday.
According to a statement from the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), the operation is part of a broader effort to rid Somalia of the Al-Shabaab threat, a group known for its insurgency against the Somali government and AU forces in Somalia.
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, in an address following the operation, pledged to continue the offensive against Al-Shabaab until the group is completely vanquished. He emphasised the necessity of liberating Somalia from the “menace” of Alshabab, signalling a steadfast commitment to this goal.
This recent operation is a continuation of a series of coordinated assaults against Al-Shabaab strongholds across central Somalia. These efforts have been pivotal in dislodging the group from territories they had dominated for over a decade, marking a significant turnaround in the government’s battle against the insurgents.
