(21-01-24) MOGADISHU (Halqabsi News) — The Somali federal government’s military, specifically the 8th battalion of the 60th division, has intensified its operations against Al-Shabaab militants in the Bay region, targeting the Goof-Gadud Burey area, a strategic stronghold of the insurgent group.
This major military initiative spans across several villages, including Misgale, Warta Kormar, Durow, Mintaanka, Qurunlow Asharaaf, Gololow, Goof Golol, and Hareera Jiif. These locations, situated on the east and southwest sides of the Goof Gadud Buurey area, are reported to be pivotal in Al-Shabaab’s operations, particularly for recruiting new members and extracting funds from locals using the roads to the Bay and Bakool regions.
The operations were led by Ahmed Mohamed Noor, also known as Ahmed Dhagey, commanding the 47th Brigade of the 8th Division of the 60th Division. His role in these operations signifies a critical phase in the Somali government’s ongoing campaign against Al-Shabaab.
These military actions are part of a broader effort by the Somali government to combat the militant group’s influence across various regions. The army, with support from local communities, has been actively engaged in operations against Al-Shabaab, particularly in the Bay and Bakool regions.
